Movida is a renowned Melbourne restaurant, based in Hosier Lane, off Flinders Street next door to the impressive Forum Theatre. Hosier Lane has become a tourist drawcard because of the incredible graffiti that covers the buildings up the laneway.
A large proportion of Movida dishes are naturally gluten free and you can ask for a separate Gluten and Dairy Free menu.
I recently had a lovely meal there before going to the nearby Regent Theatre in Collins Street for a show. At a 6pm booking the restaurant was fairly empty but it soon filled up and was buzzing.
I forgot to take many photos, but to start we shared a large bowl of delicious olives (also with some huge garlic pieces which were tempting but I didn’t want to risk garlic breath!).
Shown to the left is the chicken with peppers and roasted potatoes. We also had a salad of cured ocean trout with baby cucumbers and radishes and a couple of other small dishes. All the food was excellent quality and infused with lovely flavours.
As is often the case with ‘tapas style’ venues, the dishes come out as they are prepared and not necessarily all at the same time.
I didn’t recognise any wines on the wine list and the waitress advised us based on the style of wine that we prefer and we call enjoyed our chosen glass.
Movida is a great place to have a healthy gluten free meal right in the centre of Melbourne. I have also eaten at Movida Next Door (literally next door!) and was looked after well for gluten free.
